With five cameras and plenty of audio equipment, staying organised is vital. So I created this simple tracking board to see where I’m at in the download process.

After downloading an SD card, I turn over a card to know it has been completed.

What is a NAS Drive

A NAS (Network Attached Storage) drive is a storage device designed to be connected to a network and accessed by multiple users or devices over the internet. It is a file server that allows you to store, share, and access files from anywhere on the network.

NAS drives typically come from an external hard drive or a standalone device. They often contain multiple hard drives configured in various RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) setups for data redundancy and performance optimisation. They are equipped with an Ethernet port for connecting to a router or network switch and may also support Wi-Fi connectivity.

One of the main benefits of using a NAS drive is that it allows you to centralise your data storage and access it from multiple devices, such as computers, smartphones, and tablets. It is ideal for home and small office environments where data needs to be shared and accessed by various users.

A NAS drive is a must-have piece of equipment for any professional. It increases efficiency and adds an extra layer of protection with its built-in redundancy features. However, A NAS is not a backup—if the device fails or explodes, you will lose those precious files.

Just remember a NAS drive is not a back-up of your files, it is only drive redundancy!. you need another backup solution, so you have copy.

Back up drives

Over time, I have accumulated many external and internal hard drives of various sizes for backup purposes. However, my primary storage source is a NAS system. Having a copy of the files on the external drive’s additional robustness and durability makes them more reliable as backups. It gives peace of mind that if the NAS does implode, the files are safe.

External drive dock

I bought this external docking station from Amazon, which cost me $40 Australian dollars. It is connected directly to the NAS. And having this connected to the NAS, the transfer speeds are excellent files

Storing back up drives

Keeping vital data safe is a priority, so we have the Nas drive for security, and an external hard drive tucked away in its location – just in case anything unexpected happens. It’s great to store our valuable files securely between two places: my studio, where I keep the primary database, and another at home as extra protection.

In conclusion..
Overall, storing and saving wedding video files is a critical endeavour. Not only is it important to keep them in the proper format, but it is also essential to make back-ups in case of technological hiccups. This should give you peace of mind when preserving your client’s wedding’s most precious memories.
