GABBINBAR HOMESTEAD, THE WEDDING EXPERIENCE

Ok, I’ll be honest – Gabbinbar is my absolute favourite venue to film a wedding in the whole of South East Queensland.

This 148-year-old grand homestead sits on 13 acres up on the Toowoomba Ranges. It used to be governor’s residence, so it’s very fancy with manicured gardens, ancient trees and a lot of opulence and grandeur. If you’ve been planning your fairy-tale wedding since you were young, you’ll want to have it here.

ABOUT THE GABBINAR HOMESTEAD

The homestead began hosting weddings in 2012. They offer couples the entire estate, encouraging them to think of it as home for the day. And what a home! Inside the grand entrance, you’ll find many rooms to explore, including a glass conservatory, ballroom, sitting rooms, drawing room and library. There are plenty of historical features like crystal chandeliers, marble and slate mantelpieces, French doors, leadlight windows and wide verandas. Outside, there are gorgeous grounds – wise old trees on the lawns, large fountains and long driveways. But enough about the estate – what about the wedding experience?

Testimonial

What was your experience with Phil in the lead up to the wedding day?

Phil was very helpful leading up to our day. Having a face to face meeting leading up to was something we really enjoyed. We both appreciated having met Phil before the big day and being able to get to know each other somewhat. During this meeting he made us feel very relaxed about it all and comfortable

Do you feel everything was under control on the day?

Yes everything definitely felt under control on the day. We had not a single concern about how Phil would go, we trusted him 100% to do what he does best

Does Phil fit in with your wedding party and guests?

There were many times throughout the day/night where Phil blended into the guests and we didn’t even notice him. And also because he was a great people person and having a laugh/chat with guests too.

How was the overall experience on the day with Phil?

The whole day was amazing with Phil. We were so impressed with how he took control in every shot to ensure he’s getting the best content. But he was also more than happy to let us have our own requests and freedom. Phil is also a very easy person to chat with and a bit of a jokester. It made everything very relaxed and easy.

Is there anything Phil could do to improve?

Nothing at all.

Gabbinbar homestead Ceremony Locations

There are four ceremony locations on the grounds:

-The Pavilion – a gorgeous undercover option with high ceilings and chandeliers
-Governor’s Lawn – under a 150-year old Moreton Bay fig tree
-The Woods – down a curved, pebbled path under a lush tree canopy dripping with festoon lights
-The Old Gates – beside two historic gate, a Himalayan cedar tree and pear trees, with the Great Dividing Range in the background.

You can style these spots however you like and even use other locations if you find somewhere on the grounds you like better (though these spots are pretty special).

PRE-RECEPTION DRINKS

While we’re off roaming the grounds and taking photos, the staff keep the guests busy with a garden party. Guests can enjoy drinks and play some tennis, croquet and board games while they relax and chat. It’s all very Gatsby!

Getting Ready at the Homestead

The bride can get ready in her own bridal retreat. The Gabbinbar even provides a bride’s retreat package with lunch and drinks for five friends,  just to make the morning special! The groom can book a hotel in Toowoomba to get ready. However, for continuity in the photos and video, I advise the groom to get ready in the elegant library. (The bride is tucked away, so there’s no worry about seeing them before the ceremony.)

Wedding Videography at Gabbinbar

As you can imagine, the house and grounds provide endless opportunities to be creative. During the day, the manicured lawns, perfectly landscaped gardens and mountain views provide for memorable shots. And, at night, the towering trees across the grounds are adorned with lights. I’ve been here many times and still find ways to do creative videos because the possibilities are endless.

Reception

You can hold your reception either in the glass conservatory inside the homestead or outside in the gardens. You can have a sit-down or cocktail-style reception. The impressive conservatory has a glass ceiling and chandeliers, cream walls and timber floors. It really suits any wedding colour palette.

The catering team creates menus that highlight the fresh produce of the Darling Downs. The team has won a stack of awards, including Queensland’s best caterers and Queensland’s best wedding caterers two years running at the Australian Restaurant and Catering Association’s Awards For Excellence.

After the reception, you can move into the heritage-listed ballroom and dance the night away.

Planning & Support

The Gabbinar’s expert planning team will help you make the day perfect. They genuinely want every couple to have the ultimate wedding experience. I thought their 5-star service was next level. They stood by throughout the day, ready to attend to everyone’s needs – not just the couple and their guests, but the vendors as well. On top of their wedding package, the team can assist with whatever inspires you: supper stations, dessert bars, sparkler exits and even fireworks.

They give you a login to their wedding planning app where you can upload photos, tick off your checklist and have online chats with planners.
